Thank you

What I plan to revise?

Acknowledging my slipping off from the initial proposal, I now wish to make the following changes to make the webtext more presentable.

  1. Revising the piece with all the justice that I can do to match the closest to the proposal.
  2. Replace the videos of extremist acts with videos of schools as a comparison of non-funded and funded schools.
  3. More effective textual representation of the videos, so as to match the video sequence and express my manifesto.
  4. World Leaders talking on the topic of the need of education and how it closely authorizes my proposal.
  5. Re-write the script to a more presentable and professional tone.
  6. Explain the situation in accordance with the ’10 Things to Know About EFA’., which you pointed out in your feedback.
  7. Remove the exploratory links and replace it with the conventional <<Previous  Next>> form, since that is the peer review suggestion and common successful use in practice.

I will make sure, there will be no video of irrelevance to the topic.

Peer Review : Self Analysis

I’m fortunate to have a qualified team of peers to analyze my paper. I value your suggestions and I definitely will be making changes to make my webtext “the best” for the readers in order to convey my message. Below are some important points that  my colleagues pointed out that posed immediate attention.

I thought the project would focus more on the UNESCO Education for All
movement, but instead, the project shifted to making a correlative
case between poor education and violent, irrational behavior.

This webtext seems to have no clearly defined audience.

I feel as if your execution muddied your creative vision.

I was often confused about how I ought to be interacting with the text.

the reader would be less confused over the reading/viewing order of text and video.

More contextual analysis is necessary from
you to advance the argument.

I’m left with a certain amount of skepticism that you’ve done your research, since no other pages cite much of anything besides the videos themselves.

The webtext, despite many positive features, focuses
too much on the problems and does not call for action or provide
specific, realistic solutions or goals that a worldwide readership
might be able to participate in.

I think you’ve done a great job in terms of making your text fit both your goal for creating it and your imagined audience expectations.

Initially when I designed my story board, I was quite confident in conveying my message by displaying the “PROBLEM & SOLUTION” to the world in a professional way. I think I wasnt successful in delivering the solution to my readers in an effective way. I understand that the over hype of problems were shown with no citation and authoritative solutions to the crisis.

My changes for the webtext will concentrate on the :

  • More videos on poor schools and lack of teacher resources
  • Tone down the language and remove clippings that doesn’t match my concept
  • Better navigational options
  • More citations for the videos and solutions
  • Personal crisis solution tips composed in a visual manner.
  • Probably revise the aesthetic issues of the webtext.

Project Proposal letter to Kairos: Inventio

Oct 5th 2009

My web-text proposal titled “Why Education for all? ” will urge the global audience to shout out for education for the less fortunate, it will be a strong voice promoting need and access to primary education for children around the world. The UNESCO’s Education for All movement has inspired me; it is a global commitment to provide quality basic education for all children, youth and adults by 2015 with special emphasis on children who suffer disadvantage or who are particularly vulnerable to a social crisis. According to recent calculations, approximately seventy five million children are still not enrolled in school and an estimated sixteen percent of the world population have not yet had the opportunity to learn to read and write. Shortage of teachers is raised as one of the biggest issue in achieving the goal. My web-text will emphasize the role and need of literacy as one of the essential ingredients in the making of peace. It would attempt to bring out the possible solutions with supporting data. The project will investigate from available sources and illuminate and communicate conclusions from my observations on the topic.

So far my research has reached a conclusion that a mass collaborative effort by all nations will trigger the movement with out recoil. I compared this effort with the world nation’s collaborative effort to fight terrorism; similarly there could be an effort to fight illiteracy and poverty.  It has been studied that violence has its origins in illiteracy and poverty thereby leading to political conflicts and bloody violence Primary education is a sound venture that helps build a brighter and peaceful future for communities and countries. An estimated eighteen million teachers need to be recruited, trained and deployed globally to achieve universal primary education by 2015. The distribution of more experienced, better-qualified teachers is often skewed towards the best performing schools and students from higher socio-economic backgrounds. Rural areas and low-income urban settlements are more likely to experience large deficits in teaching staff. I doubt if the public is conscious about the crisis of illiteracy and teacher shortage, thus this proposal will also posit the need of an awareness campaign globally and thereby stimulate the public. My proposal will stand for two causes, teacher shortage and the need to erase illiteracy. By investigating and finding the possible solutions for the former, the road to erase the latter one will be cleared significantly.

I envision a final web-text using a website embedded with multiple videos of talks, interviews and related images placed aesthetically and appropriately in a non-linear method. The homepage will be a blackboard with the picture of world map on it. There will be links placed to explore the videos and texts. The navigation in the website will be made interesting and will provide the reader with an engaging experience. The videos will comprise of schools around the world, primary teacher’s experience in rural areas, videos on global initiatives, world leaders addressing the issue supplemented with text. There will also be a display of similar efforts that is in progress by various other organizations on how they approach the crisis and how they plan to solve it. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Bedi Philips

Project Proposal ENG 400

My web-text proposal will urge the global audience to shout out for the education for the less fortunate, it will be a strong voice promoting access to primary education for children around the world. The UNESCO’s Education for All movement has inspired me; it is a global commitment to provide quality basic education for all children, youth and adults by 2015 with special emphasis on children who suffer disadvantage or who are particularly vulnerable to a social crisis. Peer Review

My proposal was initially reviewed by my graduate colleague Steve Halle.

Here is the link to his comment.

To brief his observations in my proposal, he pointed out the need of a perfect single sentence which mentions the content/conceptual core. I realized that the main points are not connected well and placed effectively for the reader. Though I have mentioned the mode of the article, he doubts that it is generic. I understood the need of framing it clearly.

It was also found hard for him to tell what will set this apart as a webtext in the current way its described as a proposal. Would it reach its audience better as an alphabetic text in a print medium?

He felt that the proposal is engaging and can have an eager global audience.

Project Proposal

Introduction: UNESCO’s Education for All movement is a global commitment to provide quality basic education for all children, youth and adults by 2015. Special emphasis on children who suffer disadvantage or who are particularly vulnerable to a social crisis. Progress towards the EFA goals is not currently fast enough to meet them by 2015. According to recent calculations, approximately 75 million children are still not enrolled in school and an estimated 776 million adults (16% of the world’s population) have not yet had the opportunity to learn to read and write. Shortage of teachers is raised as one of the biggest issue in achieving the goal.

The Goal of the project: An estimated 18 million teachers need to be recruited, trained and deployed globally to achieve Universal Primary Education by 2015. The distribution of more experienced, better-qualified teachers is often skewed towards the best performing schools and students from higher socio-economic backgrounds. In the US ratio is 15.5 students per teacher along with other G-7 countries. The lower the student/teacher ratio, the higher the availability of teacher services to students. This ratio has implications not only for the cost of education, but also for the quality. The average ratio in the world is 40:1. This is a proposal to demonstrate the world how the valuable teacher resource can be sumptuously and evenly distributed.

Joining the battle against darkness: In my perception this issue is well defined as an irregular distribution of educator resource. Lower financial expectations and beholding the ethics of an ideal educator will erase the darkness of illiteracy from the face of the earth by 2015. Rural areas and low-income urban settlements are more likely to attract unqualified teachers or to experience large deficits in teaching staff. Remuneration for teachers absorbs the lion’s share of education budgets, especially in low-income countries. The higher the recruitment costs, the fewer teachers can be recruited within a fixed budget. Low-income countries in sub-Saharan Africa, and South and West Asia, constitute 80% of the world’s out-of-school children live. Increasing recruitment, strengthening motivation and improving qualifications are issues at the heart of the teacher governance challenge. I confront this as a winning battle against illiteracy and poverty.

Proposal enactment methods: With fair use of videos, sound and textual information from the internet and other resources, I would like to create a multimodal article to convey a solution in my vision, thereby promoting and supporting the UNESCO movement of Education For All by 2015.
